I love animals – especially dogs. I even told my husband I wouldn’t marry him if we couldn’t have a dog! As soon as we said “I do” I started my search. Petfinder.com listed a young Maltese in a NY animal shelter: a stray, picked up by the police late one night roaming the streets, scrawny, matted, covered in fleas — no picture. I couldn’t wait to meet him! I drove there fast and furious during my lunch hour. The minute I saw him I started crying. He was so helpless — scratching like crazy and wild looking, but sweet and gentle too. It was love at first sight. That night I sat my husband down and told him, “Honey, I found our dog today.” He was completely dumbfounded. Max is now the joy of our lives, and even my husband is madly in love with him. — Erica
